Carmen Newland is a higher education professional who has spent her career developing programs that increase student access and success in higher education. She has held professional positions at community colleges, four-year colleges, and universities. Carmen is a first-generation college student who values the impact education has on individuals and communities. She has earned a B.A. in Psychology and Family Studies from the University of New Mexico, a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from Northern Arizona University and a Doctorate in Education from Kansas State University. She is currently serving as the Student Development Manager at Northern Arizona University’s Mesa Workforce Development Center. Carmen lives in Mesa with her husband and two sons and is an active member of her community. She participated in Valle Del Sol’s Hispanic Leadership Institute-East Valley and was a 2015 National Community College Hispanic Council Leadership Fellow. Carmen also runs a small business refinishing vintage furniture and hosts a Little Free Library in her front yard.
