Shelly Thome serves as the Director of Exceptional Student Services at West-MEC, where she oversees special education, 504, and intervention services. In her more than 25 years in education, she has performed roles as a social worker, counselor, liaison, and ESS manager. Shelly is the architect of the multi-tiered systems of support as well as the access and equity initiatives within her district. Shelly serves as chair for the Association for Career Technical Education (ACTE) Inclusion, Access, Equity, and Diversity Mentorship program. Shelly also serves on the Policy Committees for both ACTE Region V and ACTE Counseling and Career Development Division. In Shelly’s professional roles, she collaborates with secondary and post-secondary institutions to provide career development and student support services for all students. Shelly has a Master’s degree in Career and Agency Counseling from Chapman University and is a Licensed Professional Counselor who also maintains a private therapy practice.

Our goal is to provide you with the tools you need to serve exceptional students enrolled in CTE courses more effectively.

The number of students experiencing anxiety in our schools has grown dramatically in recent years. This workshop is dedicated to increasing understanding of anxiety as well as gaining strategies for working with adolescents with anxiety. This session will be interactive in nature and will provide several resources and low-intensity strategies for participants to use in their schools.
