Sessions of 2025 Summer Conference: Rick Scaife

Mr. Scaife, Rick
School Counselor
Dysart Unified School District
Rick Scaife is the Counseling Department Lead at Valley Vista High School and brings over 18 years of experience as a dedicated School Counselor. He began his educational career teaching 8th Grade Science in the Peoria School District before transitioning to high school math and coaching pole vault at Centennial High School. During that time, Rick earned his Master's in Counseling/School Counseling from Northern Arizona University. After six years in the classroom, he pursued his passion for public service and became a certified EMT and graduate of Glendale Community College’s Fire Science Academy, ultimately joining the Peoria Fire Department. Rick later returned to education, bringing real-world CTE experience to his counseling practice. He has served as a West-MEC liaison, ACTEAZ Fellow, and Board Member, and is a strong advocate for expanding CTE opportunities on campus and beyond. Rick has played a key role in developing student-centered initiatives like summer CTE camps, middle school outreach, and program showcases. As both an educator and parent, he has seen firsthand the transformative power of CTE - his daughter launched a career in fashion design after completing West-MEC’s Cosmetology Program, while his son found success through CNC Precision Manufacturing and is now pursuing Structural Welding. Rick's mission is to help students discover pathways that lead to meaningful, skill-based careers.
