Hello, I am Reyes Ruiz. I’ve been teaching construction at Centennial High School in the Peoria Unified School district for nine years. Before that, I was a commercial and residential electrician. I graduated from Peoria High School and took the construction trades program there. Some of my accomplishments as a teacher are re-designing a large part of our curriculum that we offer the students, building relations with industry partners, and creating a capstone program for juniors and seniors. The capstone program offers an in-depth and more realistic construction class for students that are wanting to go into the construction industry by bridging the gap from high school to career.

Peoria Unified School District and Center for the Future of Arizona partnered for a federal grant challenge on Work-Based Learning in construction. Advancing to phase II unlocked resources and examples from other states. Our challenge was securing under-18 opportunities on construction sites. Our solution; an innovative internship course bringing employers to the classroom. This pre-apprenticeship model prepares students for construction apprenticeships. Join our session to explore how this innovative programming could reshape construction education and bridge the education to industry gap.

Commercial electrical wiring course will give you a rundown on how to properly pull/run wire through conduit, ground metal electrical boxes, make up a box and how to wire outlets, three-way, and four way switches. Bring your tools, screw drivers, snips, side cutters, gloves, safety goggles, and wire strippers. Please wear close toed shoes and pants. We will work in pairs on the towers.
