Christina Avila is an Assistant Vice President, Outreach with Access ASU. Christina’s portfolio includes programming focused on workforce development initiatives to meet the diverse workforce needs of the state and First Star, a program that aims to provide foster youth the academic support, enrichment and resources needed to enroll and succeed in college. In addition, Avila leads the unit's strategies in support of 12th grade students and their families as they prepare for post-secondary success. Prior to joining ASU, Christina’s background has focused on leading community outreach programs and initiatives within the non-profit sector and local city governments including serving as the College and Career Success Program Manager with Jobs for Arizona Graduates. Avila’s passion for serving her community is reflected in her prior work as a member of the City of Phoenix, Youth and Education Commission, 2003-2006; Maricopa Association of Governments, Regional Domestic Violence Council, 2010-2013 and Camp Colley Foundation Board, 2017- 2021. As a first generation college graduate, she recognizes the impact that access to resources and support mechanisms can have on successful degree attainment. Avila holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work and a Master Degree in Nonprofit Leadership and Management from Arizona State University.

Participants will learn about interactive activities and resources that will encourage middle and high schools students to connect passions and interests to career pathways. Not everyone can be a YouTuber but everyone can explore where their interests can take them. During this session participants will explore activities designed to guide students through career exploration and professional development resources.
