As college enrollment declines and workforce demands accelerate, traditional “college-first” pathways no longer reflect student needs or labor market realities. This session uses Maricopa County as a case study to explore the “leaky funnel” from 9th grade to employment and why the traditional "school to college to career" sequence succeeds for only 6% of students. Participants will examine 20 years of CTE research, living-wage labor market data, and a proven delivery model that boosts graduation, credential attainment, and career-aligned outcomes. Attendees will leave with practical strategies and powerful narratives to advocate for expanding high-quality CTE pathways in their own communities.
