Cathy Reed currently works at the Arizona Department of Education, Career and Technical Education as a Program Specialist for Technical Standards and Assessments. Her involvement with business and industry professionals provides a great relationship and partnership to identify and validate entry-level occupational knowledge and skills CTE students need, as well as technical program standards to guide teachers in their instruction. As a facilitator, Cathy works with teachers and the program technical standards to create assessment items for the Technical Skills Assessments taken by student concentrators at the end of their program. As a former teacher, Cathy continues her passion for students and teacher success inside and outside the classroom in her daily work. She has a bachelor’s degree in child development from California and her AZ Teacher Certification for K-8.

Explore the purpose, development, and implementation of CTE program technical standards, including the origins of programs and their standards, resources used to unpack and teach the standards, the connection between the standards and the Technical Skills Assessment, and, most importantly the collaborative process with industry to ensure that CTE students acquire the essential knowledge and skills for success. This session is especially designed for new CTE directors and new teachers.
