Erin McGehean is the Director for Educational Partnerships with Northern Arizona University. She works with community colleges throughout the state to establish partnerships and develop clear pathways for students and staff to follow to ensure a smooth transfer path to NAU. Erin has worked for NAU for over 13 years on the statewide campuses. NAU’s statewide campuses are located on the Arizona community colleges and offer NAU degree programs on the community college campuses, allowing students to remain in their communities to complete their bachelor degree program.

Peoria Unified School District and Center for the Future of Arizona partnered for a federal grant challenge on Work-Based Learning in construction. Advancing to phase II unlocked resources and examples from other states. Our challenge was securing under-18 opportunities on construction sites. Our solution; an innovative internship course bringing employers to the classroom. This pre-apprenticeship model prepares students for construction apprenticeships. Join our session to explore how this innovative programming could reshape construction education and bridge the education to industry gap.

This session aims to explore the transformative potential of youth apprenticeships in cultivating a skilled and empowered workforce for the future. The topics we will cover include: introduction to youth apprenticeships, benefits and impact, key components of successful apprenticeships, engagement with employers and addressing challenges and solutions. Attendees will gain insights into the Center for the Future of Arizona's (CFA) involvement in apprenticeships and explore methods to create an apprenticeship program in collaboration with CFA.
